It’s a sunny Sydney day and that magnificent time of year where the blossom is erupting in fireworks of color on every street corner, balcony and tree. As a fanatical ‘looker – uperer’, my breath is constantly being taken away by those moments where beauty is so utterly apparent that all the ‘busy -ness’ and ‘to do’s that were racing around my head, are suddenly wiped clear, in the celebration of the moment.
However, contradictory to that ‘being in the moment’ scene that I have just set, Sydney, along with the November winds and relentless eye watering pollen, feels far from calm. It is a time of year, where business’ are getting ready for the long summer break, parents are bracing themselves for how to juggle kids and work over the extended vacation and everyone is speeding along with a ridiculous pace, to tie up their loose ends, close 2012 and eagerly pour a long glass of something cool, to kick off the beginning of the Australian Christmas break.
So as I bolt out the door on my Monday morning with a slightly over enthusiastic stride in my step, at the thought of time to myself after having taxied the kids from parties, to play dates, to swimming, etc and before I begin a long day of Coaching, …I suddenly realize that I am completely ungrounded, a little overwhelmed and in need of some context to help anchor my thoughts, my feelings and of course ultimately the actions I take, so that they are all completely aligned with what I actually want out of my day, my week, my month and my LIFE!
A clever little tool that Andy and I used on a regular basis to create our days or give a strong frame work to a particularly important or challenging situation, was to practice our ‘three little word’ strategy. We would stop for a moment, collect our thoughts and then identify three very specific words that in any given situation would anchor, clarify and inspire the appropriate action or response.
So here are today’s three little words… ..Please remember that words mean different things, to different people, so please honour and respect what others have chosen to inspire themselves and choose only what resinates for you!
Create = From any situation I will create something meaningful, inspiring and empowering for myself and all those around me.
Trust = That I trust what lays ahead of me and that all l need to do is focus on making a difference, to myself, to others and to the little’s!
Enjoy = Focus on enjoying what you are doing, look for the gift that is in the present, instead of worrying about the future.
Remember your words create your world, so choose them wisely.
Have a great week!
