It’s a sunny Sydney day and that magnificent time of year where the blossom is erupting in fireworks of color on every street corner, balcony and tree. As a fanatical ‘looker – uperer’, my breath is constantly being taken away by those moments where beauty is so utterly apparent that all the ‘busy -ness’ and ‘to do’s that were racing around my head, are suddenly wiped clear, in the celebration of the moment.

However, contradictory to that ‘being in the moment’ scene that I have just set, Sydney, along with the November winds and relentless eye watering pollen, feels far from calm. It is a time of year, where business’ are getting ready for the long summer break, parents are bracing themselves for how to juggle kids and work over the extended vacation and everyone is speeding along with a ridiculous pace, to tie up their loose ends, close 2012 and eagerly pour a long glass of something cool, to kick off the beginning of the Australian Christmas break.

So as I bolt out the door on my Monday morning with a slightly over enthusiastic stride in my step, at the thought of time to myself after having taxied the kids from parties, to play dates, to swimming, etc and before I begin a long day of Coaching,  …I suddenly realize that I am completely ungrounded, a little overwhelmed and in need of some context to help anchor my thoughts, my feelings and of course ultimately the actions I take, so that they are all completely aligned with what I actually want out of my day, my week, my month and my LIFE!

A clever little tool that Andy and I used on a regular basis to create our days or give a strong frame work to a particularly important or challenging situation, was to practice our ‘three little word’ strategy. We would stop for a moment, collect our thoughts and then identify three very specific words that in any given situation would anchor, clarify and inspire the appropriate action or response.

So here are today’s three little words… ..Please remember that words mean different things, to different people, so please honour and respect what others have chosen to inspire themselves and choose only what resinates for you!

Create = From any situation I will create something meaningful, inspiring and empowering for myself and all those around me.

Trust = That I trust what lays ahead of me and that all l need to do is focus on making a difference, to myself, to others and to the little’s!

Enjoy = Focus on enjoying what you are doing, look for the gift that is in the present, instead of worrying about the future.

Remember your words create your world, so choose them wisely.
Have a great week!

So for today, in order to cheer up a dull, rainy Monday morning, my three words are:
    Radiate, Attract, Smile.

Congrats on your new office space by the way.  Another little beginning!  Hope it all goes well for you. xx

  • Elena Ferro

Hello everybody! Mmmmm, sorry for being so obtuse but… I can’t see clearly the meaning of the second word: making a difference? What does it mean exactly?

    Thanks!

    • Susan_Mangan

      Hi Elena,
      Do you mean this line?:
“Trust = That I trust what lays ahead of me and that all l need to do is focus on making a difference, to myself, to others and to the little’s!”
It’s about having faith in your future and believing you can make changes for the better in your life.

      • Elena Ferro

Yes, that was the line, Susan… ok, so it’s making a difference to be better… ok… I understand now… I didn’t see the meaning, but I do now… Thanks!!!

        • Susan_Mangan

Awesome Vashti!! Great words to start the week off just right!! xoxox

Vashti, I hope I can get your permission to use those three little words and the explanation after them. I manage a kitchen for a Michigan school kitchen and always look for something uplifting for the ladies that work with me. I love the thoughts that your three words bring to mind, and I know the ladies would get some empowerment to read them every day on our notice board. Thank you for continuing to make us stop, think, and improve our daily lives by sharing a bit of your own personal experiences in life.

Coming off of the “Sandy aftermath” what a bitch she was and the heartbreaking devastation to so  many people, and sadly for my tiny beautiful beach town who’s broken and devastated. I choose the following…

    STRENGTH, HOPE and RESILIENCE

    • Susan_Mangan

Much love to you KDee xx

    Ciao Vashti,
    Simona

This week I’m feeling real good, dispite the cold, the sun is shining and bring some joy! Reading your words is almost as “tasting” the sun.
My words for this week are:
Love – because we must love all good things and people around us all day and enjoy it, not just watching the negative side of life
Responsability – because we must to honor our responsabilities to those who we compromise with (bad Susana gramatical error? lol), in our job, with our friends, family and with ourselfs
Change – because I started a new food plane, trying to implement a healthy style of life. Next step is starting exercise. I want to get pregnet again and loose weight is important (not just for that reason, but now is my motivation)
Have a big kiss X and  for the littles too XX

Vashti, so moved by how you handled your life while and after going through all you have. So inspiring for me yet I feel so sad about it all too. Just discovered the Spartacus series while out off power for 2 weeks in ct because of sandy. No tv so I lived on DVDs and just fell in love with Andy. Then I wanted to find out more about this amazing lead actor and discovered this incredibly sad story. I have 3 kids your kids age and a wonderful husband but just don’t think I could survive what you have. I am fascinated by how people can move on after the worst has happened to them. It really gives me strength and inspires me to be less fearful. Living in the moment- can’t say it enough. I am a huge Oprah fan. You would of been a wonderful guest on her show! Maybe once the movie comes out-you could find a way to get on it! She is no longer prime time but still has show going on. Thank you for sharing such a person journey. I have thought of you almost every day since discovering this story so just had to write.

Wondering when Andy,s movie/ story will come out? Don’t want to miss it.

I’m in aww at how you can do this exercise! Not surprised in the least. Inspired by what you do what you put forward.how I have not gone threw a third of the pain you have and I want to curl up into a ball and never come out!
But not only that I can’t seem to see the good anymore.
Please excuse me if this doesn’t make sence!
